Dr. Derrick Smith is the Lead Pastor of The Ark! He has over two decades of extensive experience in the ministry having served as an Adjutant, Worship Leader, Staff Minister, Associate Pastor, and Dean of Christian Education.

Dr. Smith has a heart for people and loves to see them succeed. Known for his no-nonsense approach to the Gospel, Dr. Smith loves sharing the Word of God. He has been endowed by God with many gifts but counts the gift of teaching as his most useful. It is this gift that allows him to impact everyone he connects with and for which he has been called the “Theological Psychologist.” Dr. Smith has trained over 100 ministers in sermonic preparation and presentation.

Dr. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in biblical and Theological Studies, a master’s degree in Christian Ministry from the Smith’s Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Education in Marriage and Family Counseling as well as a certified international Chaplain. He also holds certifications in both marriage and premarital counseling as well as applied suicide intervention. Dr. Smith is also a published author and sought-after speaker. He and his wife Albany, along with their two children currently live in the city of Gainesville.
